Flights to Nigeria

There are an awful lot of Nigerians in Diaspora who try to (if they are able) go home every year or as much as possible. If they were to go directly to the airlines for fares, they would pay 3,000 to 4000 dollars for a round trip flight to Nigeria!! Since this is my website, let me take the time to vent and say British Airways (in particular) and the rest of the european airlines that routinely exploit Nigerians should go to Hell!! Lets do some basic geography here and let me explain my rage to you all.

** Rant Begins **
The United Kingdom is equidistant (equally distant) from America as Nigeria is. To be clear, it is roughly the same distance from America to London as it is from America to Nigeria. Lets talk about prices shall we? I can get a ticket on sale from California to the United Kingdom for 300 dollars. The cheapest flight I can ever get to Nigeria from California is approximately 1100 to 1300 dollars! Thats the cheapest!! Let's see.. roughly the same distance, massive price differences...

Honestly, I don't blame the bastard airlines. They are capitalistic and would be crazy to turn down the money. I blame the Nigerian Government. We take such horseshit from British airways etc. I would throw them out and do exclusive business with an American Airline. God knows that the route is one of the most profitable. The Nigerian Government needs to really start to re-evaluate exactly how we give foreigners our business and hard earned money. We only hurt ourselves when we allow our citizens to be exploited!!       ** End of rant **

The National Airline Nigeria Airways folded in a very ugly mess...(we Nigerians don't talak about that too much).

On the positive side, there have been some good developments in the travel industry in Nigeria. Virgin Nigeria is Nigeria's private sector flag carrier, 51% owned by Nigerian institutional investors and 49% owned by Virgin Atlantic. The airline was formed in September 2004 when the Federal Government of Nigeria announced the selection of Virgin Atlantic Airways as the strategic investor and technical partner in this exciting project.

From their base at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, Virgin Nigeria is developing a global network of domestic, regional and international routes. It will progressively serve routes domestically within Nigeria, regionally within West and central Africa, and inter-continentally to Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America.

Their launch flight from Lagos to London Heathrow took place on 28 June 2005. Lagos - Abuja, Lagos - Port Harcourt and Lagos - Accra are also now on sale. Other new routes will be added in the weeks and months following launch.

Anyway...Nigerians love to travel. We fly around the globe with impunity and confidence. Based on the fact that it can be really expensive to travel to Nigeria, it's usually smarter to find a Travel Consolidator.

A consolidator is an entity who negotiates bulk contracts with travel suppliers, and then sells those services to travel agents (or, occasionally, the general public), usually at a discount. They are able to give the consumer much lower ticket prices than you would
