NECA appeals to Tinubu
Funmi Komolafe
March 20, 2006

LAGOS—THE Nigeria  Employers Consultative Association, ( NECA) has appealed to Governor  Bola Tinubu “to  reconcile the position of Lagos State with that of the Federal Government by embracing the modalities articulated by  Mr President for the conduct of the census.”
In a letter to the Governor, the Director-General of NECA, Mr. Olusegun Osinowo stated that this has become  necessary in view of the confusion which the conflicting pronouncements from the state and federal authorities.
Mr. Osinowo wrote, “As things stand currently, the residents of Lagos State are really confused as to what their  disposition should be as from Tuesday, 21st March, 2006.”
NECA, an organisation that provides a platform for private sector employers to interract  with government and labour  observed that the Lagos directive which called on citizens to remain at home from Tuesday, 21st March could be  counter- productive as “  it will simply provide ample time and opportunity to such residents to travel to their home  states to be counted”, thereby defeating the goal  of the Lagos state government which is to get Lagos residents  counted in Lagos.
